The following document was released by the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense last May 13, 2021. It was produced by the Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre (DCDC) in partnership with the German Bundeswehr Office for Defense Planning. The document is a culmination of a study that looked at the future implications of human augmentation and how it can be integrated into society.

The document begins with the following words: “…the field of human augmentation has the potential to transform society, security, and defense over the next 30 years. We must begin to understand the implications of these changed and shape them to our advantage now before they are thrust upon us.”

Editor’s Note: Perhaps what makes this document important is that it tries to look at the legal and ethical issues arising out of human augmentation. Unfortunately, its analysis was already compromised due to the mindset adhered to by the authors.

From the beginning of the document, it was already clear that the goal was to utilize human augmentation. The authors believed that a new era in warfare is coming, and hence, not implementing human augmentation was not an option. This kind of thinking can only come from a mindset that believes in a disconnected, stratified world.
