A YouGov poll in the UK found that eight out of 10 people want the government to prioritize health and well being over economic growth during the coronavirus pandemic. In the same survey, it was also discovered that six out of 10 Britons would want the government to still focus on health and wellbeing of its citizens even after the coronavirus crisis.
In response to these findings, various politicians belonging to different parties published The Tragedy of Growth which calls on the shift away from the use of GDP as a measure of success. According to the document, the focus on GDP could lead to decisions that sacrifices people’s quality of life, the environment, and other things that people value greatly.
