In this July 1, 2021 article for Berkeley News, Anne Brice reports on the statements of Joel Moskowitz who explains why cellphones can be harmful to health and offers suggestions on how people can reduce their risk.
Joel Moskowitz is a researcher in the School of Public Health at UC Berkeley and the director of Berkeley’s Center for Family and Community Health.
For more than a decade, Moskowitz has been on a quest to prove that radiations from cellphones are unsafe. Moskowitz says that some health effects of prolonged cellphone use include interference “with our cellular mechanisms, opening up calcium channels, for example, and allowing calcium to flow into the cell and into the mitochondria within the cell, interfering with our natural cellular processes and leading to the creation of stress proteins and free radicals and, possibly, DNA damage. And, in other cases, it may lead to cell death.” In 2011, the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization classified radiofrequency radiation as “possibly carcinogenic to humans”.
Moskowitz goes on to explain how 5G technology makes matters worse. Millimeter waves, unlike microwaves which were used by 3G and 5G is absorbed through the skin, the sweat glands, the peripheral nerves, the eyes, and the testes. This can cause hypersensitivity and reprogram our immune and circulatory systems. It can harm insects, promote the growth of drug-resistant pathogens, and other environmental effects. To protect ourselves, Moskowitz offers the following recommendations:
- Minimize use of cellphones and cordless phones.
- Keep cellphones at least 10 inches away from your body, particularly away from the head. Use wired headphones or use speakerphone for calls.
- Use phones only when the signal is strong.
- Encourage people to learn more about Americans for Responsible Technology which are working to educate policymakers and urging them to adopt cell tower regulations and exposure limits.
Editor’s Note: Before the pandemic hit, protests against 5G have been launched in many countries worldwide. Many of the initiatives attempting to ban 5G implementation have succeeded, but things are changing. 5G rollout continued despite the global lockdownhttps://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/not-even-the-coronavirus-can-derail-5gs-global-momentum/ and we are now at the point where most major cities in the world have 5G towers and are planning to launch smart city initiatives.
We will have to deal with the reality that 5G is here and that we will have to find new ways to cope. Will Dr. Moskowitz suggestions be enough? [Here are a few more recommendations, read HERE ARE 7 WAYS YOU CAN PROTECT YOUR FAMILY FROM EMF, PROTECT YOURSELF FROM 5G AND EMF].
