Central to healing from an illness is the patient’s desire to recover. Is AI in healthcare hindering this process?

In this 2018 article by Allison Pugh for The New Yorker, she explores the effectiveness of AI in helping patients recover from their illnesses.

On one hand, Pugh discovers, AI can help low-income patients get the personal support they will need to learn how to continue healing after discharge from the hospital. On the other, AI health providers function with a routine, and hence, are repetitive, which could actually demotivate patients from pushing for increased recovery.
