Elon Musk believes that Tesla will “play a role” in bringing about artificial general intelligence (AGI). The report on this was written by Noor Al-Sibai and was published by Futurism last January 20, 2022.
In a tweet, Musk said, “Tesla AI might play a role in AGI given that it trains against the outside world, especially with the advent of Optimus”. When asked about the potential for “AGI gone awry”, Musk responded that Tesla will do its best to keep it in check and that “decentralized control of the robots will be critical”. What he means by this, however, remains a mystery.
Editor’s Note: While there is no real assurance that AGI will come in the next few years, there is evidence pointing to the reality that AGI will definitely come within our lifetimes.
Whether this AGI will remain within human control cannot yet be determined at this point. What we do know is that there are concerns regarding its development, and with the kind of society we live in today, we know that it will have devastating consequences for personal privacy and warfare.
Will governments make a real move to regulate AI? Your guess is as good as ours. [Also read 193 countries adopt first global agreement on Ethics of AI, The Fight to Define When AI Is ‘High Risk’].
