In this July 21, 2020 article for The Independent, Anthony Cuthbertson reports on a recent development in Elon Musk’s Neuralink which will allow wearers to “listen music directly from the chip”. But this is just the beginning of Neuralink’s utility.
According to computer scientist Austin Howard, Neuralink will also help “control hormone levels and use them to our advantage”, for example, in increasing our cognitive abilities, and relieving anxieties. Musk also envisions the technology to help those with Parkinson’s disease to recover their capabilities. The ultimate goal of Neuralink, however, is to enable humans to compete with advanced AI [Musk has been speaking about the need for human-computer integration for a few years now, see Elon Musk’s solution to AI].
Editor’s Note: As can be seen by this recent report, it is now clear that Elon Musk also subscribes to a transhumanist worldview, despite his criticism of artificial intelligence. His technology, Neuralink, is based on the belief that the human mind cannot extend beyond the human brain. It is disappointing that despite the numerous researches already showing that the human mind is beyond the material, Musk fails to see the evidence [for more info on this, read articles on consciousness studies].
