AI technology can now mimic any human voice after listening to it for just one minute.
In July 2017, the world was shocked to discover that artificial intelligence can now create fake videos of any individual. BBC News actually published a fake video of Barack Obama giving a speech to show how powerful this AI software is.
But AI technologies mimicking humans doesn’t stop at the creation of fake videos. While Apple’s Siri and Microsoft’s Cortana are designed to sound like a computer in order to hide the real power behind these two software, Baidu has created Deep Voice, the AI that can clone any voice after listening to it for only one minute.
Questions to Reflect On
- Can you imagine what can happen when a group of soldiers mistakenly bomb a community, after being instructed by their commander in-chief via video call?
- What are the repercussions when the military discovers that such an instruction was actually synthesized by software?
