Elon Musk’s Neuralink is facing a legal challenge from an animal rights group accusing the company of subjecting monkeys to extreme suffering in its quest to test its brain-machine interface. The report on this was published by The New York Post last February 10, 2022.

According to the report, Neuralink’s experiments involved 23 monkeys in total, 15 of which died or were euthanized by 2020. Representative of the animal rights group, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine said, “Many, if not all, of the monkeys, experienced extreme suffering as a result of inadequate animal care and the highly invasive experimental head implants during the experiments, which were performed in pursuit of developing what Neuralink and Elon Musk have publicly described as a ‘brain-machine interface’”.

Editor’s Note: While we understand that it has been a long-standing practice to use animals in experiments, it still horrifies us to discover how these monkeys were treated, all for humanity’s desire to perfect a technology that will only benefit a few groups of people.

Animals are sentient beings. Like us, they can feel emotions, they experience pain and suffering. Our inability to understand their plight is a clear indication of our disconnection from nature. Is it any wonder then why some people simply cannot empathize with the plight of others? Is it any wonder why transhumanists, who only look at human beings as a kind of glorified animals, with brains that act like a computer, treat “lesser” people like animals?
