Many people are excited for the coming of 5g and all the economic potential it represents. With higher speeds and more stable connection, a mobile internet of things can finally be implemented.
Estimates show that an additional 22 million jobs will be created through the building and maintenance of the networks. But with these new jobs comes the loss more than 5 million jobs on the first few years alone – 1.8 milloon in trucking, 3.4 million in cashiering, and a couple million more in other industries. Sascha Segan of PCMag stresses that in order to prevent excessive social repercussions, industries promoting 5g development must lead the way at re-skilling workers affected by its arrival.
