Through a new technique of decoding that utilized deep neural networks, scientists from the Kyoto University can now reconstruct multi-layer images on a person’s mind just by looking at the person’s brain activity.
What does this technology mean for human kind? For doctors, it means having an extra tool to help in the treatment of psychiatric patients. For artists, it means having the capacity to create art simply by imagining something. The technology could also be the first step towards communication through imagery or thoughts. But will it ever be good enough to replace the human capacity for telepathy?
