Are psychiatrists open to a non-materialist view of the mind?

Most psychiatrists still adhere to a materialist conception of the human mind. But a unique opportunity exists: many are willing to listen to alternative explanations that are logically sound, and scientifically derived.

The attached article details a study conducted before and after the debate on the mind-brain relationship (MBR)  at the 2014 Brazilian Congress of Psychiatry. Results show that many psychiatrists are now interested in understanding MBR but there are very few studies concerning this topic.

Implications for AI

The good news is that though most  psychiatrists hold on to a materialist view of the mind, many are slowly opening the space for alternative explanations. The movement towards the non-materialist explanation of the human mind is spreading, but the science that supports it needs to catch up.
