Science has always been a great tool for humanity to understand its true nature. This time, however, it is allowing us to rediscover the lost part of ourselves.

In this article for Nature Magazine, author Nathaniel Comfort traces the history of scientism and attempts to help us grasp how it has pre-determined our understanding of human nature. According to Comfort, changes in societal consciousness is forcing science to change so that it creates tools that are more democratic, and accessible. Comfort also stresses that Western science and technology are no longer the only reliable sources  of self-knowledge.

Implications for AI

Science is becoming more democratic and is slowly allowing us to rediscover parts of ourselves that has been lost due to extreme reductionism and positivism. Indigenous knowledge systems finally have a place in modern society, and, science and technology are becoming tools of greater equity, inclusivity, and diversity.
