Facebook’s main goal is to raise stockholder profit, and they do so in the guise of free speech.

Mark Zuckerberg recently said that Facebook is about giving everyone a voice, and about fighting for upholding freedom of expression. This article from Jon Evans at Tech Crunch shows these are but meaningless statements, with no real commitment to supporting a vibrant, dynamic, and truly peaceful community. Evans says that Facebook’s decision to use an algorithm that is optimized for public outrage, and its lack of effort in stopping paid political misinformation shows that the company is all about making profit, with little to no regard for its social responsibilities.
