What does it mean to be “in the flow”? Is this something you can learn consciously?

In this 2017 article, writer Alice Watson surveys the ideas of a psychologist and a neuroscientist to explain the meaning of the expression “being in the flow”. While both scientist cannot determine whether “being in the flow” is the natural state or not, they both believe that being in this state of consciousness enables the brain to work optimally.
