Better technology does not guarantee a better, happier life. The increasing number of suicides among young people is proof of this. Will a robot be able to offer our children meaningful relationships, or is this something only humans can give?

More young people are dying of suicide, according to this report from Business Insider. Millenials (those who turned 23 to 38 in 2019) have reported a 47% increase in major depression diagnoses, but this trend is bound to continue with the Gen Zers (born in 1997 onward). Social media use may be fueling depression as some teenagers expressed the longing for interpersonal connections which cannot be replicated online.
