No, the size of your brain does not determine your intelligence. In fact, John Lorber discovered that some people who “virtually has no brain” can end up at the top of their class.

Through a systematic study of individuals suffering from hydrocephalous, neuroscientist John Lorber saw that despite the loss of brain matter, many patients suffering from hydrocephalous do not have function impairment. This article from 2007 shows some of the results of Lorber’s work.

Implications for AI

We used to think that the size of a person’s brain determined their intelligence. Lorber’s work shows that this is not the case. What then determines a person’s level of intelligence? If this materialist belief (concerning the size of the brain vs. intelligence) is false, where then, does intelligence reside?
